If you’re feeling the same way, turn off the Netflix and check out our top tips for unwinding before bed for a good night’s rest!
1. In order to unwind before bed establish a bed time ritual
This means switching off your emails at least an hour before bed. Take a bath or read a book. Light a scented candle and stretch out your muscles. Stretching is a relaxing way to help soothe tired muscles, especially after a warm shower. Also less tension equals a better sleep.
2. Try not to overeat at dinner
Funnily enough sleeping on a full stomach isn’t the best recipe for a good night’s rest. When you overeat, you create unnecessary stress on your digestive system. It’s also not a good idea to lie down straight after eating as this can cause indigestion. Grilled fish and veggies or soup are great dinner options.
3. Manage your stress levels
Easier said than done when we are all so busy! But stress it a major culprit is disruptive sleep. Make sure you aren’t scrolling social media right before bed as this can trigger anxiety. The light from your phone also gives activity signals to your brain making it harder to unwind.
Regular exercise is important for maintaining health and a good night’s rest. Just make sure you are not exercising too late at night as this can stimulate cortisol, which in turn disrupts your sleep.
